AMAYA D + D STUDIO/ HOME
This design took on special meaning. After decades of effort, our dream has been realized. This is our heavenly valley (amagai/ Amaya / 天弥 or 天矢). This is where we balance both our professional and personal lives. We don't use the word 'work' as it has a negative connotation. We enjoy what we do. It is an extension of who we are. The design has many influences, chief amongst are Modern Japanese, Mexican Hacienda and Pueblo. The central courtyard is situated not only to enjoy the Japanese inspired garden but Sandia Mountains as well. These views extend into the main living space with floor to 8 foot high glass sliding doors by 16 foot wide bringing the outside in. Special moments/ spaces occur throughout that starts at the home's main entrance courtyard with relaxing water features that set the mood. The foyer displays a painting (full wall length) whose inspiration comes from the Wabi Sabi style where age and life's imperfections are embraced and celebrated. It's where life happens. It's where beauty is created. No need to fix or cover the dings of life. What a wonderful way to live.
